DIRECTORS’ MEETING

HELD ON MONDAY,FEBRUARY 13, 2023, 4pm

  1. CALL TO ORDER

Chair Bob Coulson called the meeting to order at 4:19 pm.

  1. APPROVAL OF AGENDA


Motion: That the agenda be approved.

Moved: Jean Deschenes

  1. ADOPTION OF MINUTES

Motion: That the Minutes of the January 9, 2022 Magic Lake Property Owners’ Society Meetingbe approved.

  1. BUSINESS ARISING:


4.1. Playground/Recreational Update

  • 4.1.1. For getting an estimate of the cost to remediate the areas west and north of the tennis/pickleball courts, a contractor has been to the site and will provide an estimate to fill this area.

  • 4.1.2. For the playground equipment that was to be ordered, a different version must be chosen. The treasurer will review options.


4.2 Governance Update

  • CRD response is being finalized and will be sent to Ministry.


4.3 Defibrillators

  • There were no further updates.


4.4 Privateers Speed Signage (report by community member)

  • Concerns with vehicle speeds continues to be an issue.

  • For the request for 30km/hr signage to be added at the park, correspondence has been traded with MOTI and is ongoing.

  • There was further discussion on ways to increase community awareness of speeding issues, to be brought back to next meeting.

  • The president will contact Adam Olsen about the need for lines to be repainted and for speed signs.


4.5 Connected Coast Project on Pender Island

  • The Connected Coast is a project to lay subsea fibre optic cable to rural areas of BC https://connectedcoast.ca/about/

  • New information received from the CRD Director on the service to Pender Island and the SGIs. Concerns with this can be expressed to Network BC to advocate for the islands to receive fibreoptic cable. Both the SGI CRD Director and the MLA are working on this.


Motion:That the President write a letter on behalf of MLPOS to Network BC advocating for Pender Island to receive fibre optic cable service.

  • A community member will also do research on whether a group low orbit satellite (Starlink) option is available.


4.6 Park Zoning

  • For the rezoning of this tennis/pickleball/playground park, a letter requesting rezoning from residential to community park will be sent to the Local Trust Committee.


4.7 BC Assessment Appeal of Chart Drive Triangle Site

  • After receiving this years assessment, the small, undevelopable Chart Drive triangular site assessment was appealed. The appeal was successful with the value being satisfactorily reduced.


  1. TREASURER

The Treasurer’s report, budget comparison and balance sheet were received, and are attached.

  1. DIRECTORS’ REPORTS


7.1 Marina General Manager

  • Lighting is being installed to upgrade the driveway for emergency vehicles.


7.2 Recreation / Tennis Report

  • A sign has been placed in the playground/park to say park “closed at dusk”.

  • It was suggested that more signage may be needed. This will be reviewed and coordinated with Recreation Manager to be discussed at the next meeting.


7.3 Director-at-Large

  • There were no specific items to report.

8.1 Cottage Food Industry Issue

  • The board was brought up to date on the situation with the health inspector visiting the island and shutting some food vendors down. No action is needed at this time.
